New Government Apprenticeship Initiative for Non-Apprenticeship Levy Payers

The Government has announced a new initiative to encourage non-levy paying employers to access funded training for apprentices. Currently 98% of registered employers do not pay the apprenticeship levy, however, starting in January until the 31st March 2020 an initiative will begin where non-levy payers who want to access funded training for apprenticeships will be funded from an additional budget. This budget will allow for up to 15,000 new apprenticeship starts during the first three months of 2020.

SMEs will be able to select their apprenticeship training from all main training provider organisations and institutions that are listed in the register of apprenticeship training providers (RoATP). Employers will be able to make this selection, and reserve funding, for apprentices that will be trained using the new employer-designed apprenticeship standards. This applies not just to manufacturing, restoration and distributor training but is available across the board including sales and marketing; procurement; production; logistics; warehouse; transport; IT; finance and HR.

This funding is on a first come basis so FIESTA would encourage all employers with a payroll of less than £3m pa, and wishing to take advantage of high-quality training, to contact Carmen Daley at Skills Plus to discuss how to access this funded training. Carmen can be contacted at carmen@theapprenticeshipgroup.co.uk or on 07496 370 224.
